The Solar System

The Solar system is the gravitationally bounded system of the sun and the objects that circumvent it.

Our Solar system consists of our star - the Sun and everything that gravitationally bounded with it - the globes Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune ; dwarf planet similar as Pluto ; dozens of moons ; and millions of asteroids, comets and meteoroids.

Our Solar system is in Milky Way Galaxy.

SOME INTRIGUING DATA ABOUT THE OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

1. THE SUN

  • It is a ball of gas and plasma - around 91% of it is hydrogen gas.
  • It is the biggest object in our solar system and it fills nearly 1.3 million Earths in it.
  • Its gravity holds the solar system together.
  • The hottest part of the sun is core which temperature is about 15 million degree Celsius.

2. MERCURY

  • It is the smallest planet in our solar system and closest planet to the sun.
  • A day on Mercury takes 59 Earth`s days.
  • It is a rocky planet.
  • Being so close to the sun, you might be strange that Mercury could harbor any surface ice at all.

3. VENUS

  • It is the hottest planet in our solar system.
  • It is a terrestrial planet.
  • The Venus has an active surface, including volcanoes.
  • It is the second brightest natural objects in the night sky after the Moon.
  • It spins the opposite direction of Earth and most of the other planets.

4. EARTH

  • The name Earth comes from the old English and Germanic words meaning `The Ground.`
  • It is the only planet in our solar system that contains life.
  • About 71% of the earth`s surface is covered with water and most of the earth`s water hold by oceans about 96.5%.
  • Its atmosphere is made up of gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide which we refer to as `air.`

    5. MARS

    • It is called the red planet because of all the iron in the soil which rusts and makes the surface and the atmosphere look red.
    • It may look warm, but it is very cold and the average temperature of its -62 degrees Celsius.
    • It has 2 moons and their names are Phobos and Deimos.
    • The atmosphere on Mars is 100 times thinner than the Earth`s atmosphere, and it has very little oxygen.

    6. JUPITER

    • It is the biggest planet in our solar system.
    • It has very thick atmosphere.
    • It has rings which are very hard to see.
    • It is a gas giant and is mostly made up of hydrogen and helium.

    7. SATURN

    • It is the second largest planet in our solar system.
    • We cannot stand on Saturn.
    • It has 7 rings which looks so beautiful and they are made up of bits of ice, dust and rock.
    • Also, it is the only planet that could float in water.

    8. URANUS

    • It is a the coldest planet in our solar system.
    • It is the second least dense planet.
    • It is surrounded by a set of 13 rings.
    • It is the only planet that spins on its side.
    • It has 27 moons.

    9. NEPTUNE

    • It is the last discovered planet in our solar system and the most distant planet from the sun.
    • It is a `ice giant.`
    • It is encircled by 6 rings.
    • It has a thick, windy atmosphere.

    10. PLUTO

    • It is a dwarf planet.
    • It lies in a Kuiper belt.
    • It is smaller than the moon.
    • on Pluto there are many white mountains which are made up of
      methane frost.
    • It has 5 moons.
